Virat Kohli: India's 'Milestone Man' Continues To Prove He's In A League Of His Own

The ongoing three-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is probably one of the most boring contests around. While the Indian team is using the series as an opportunity to prepare for the high-voltage South African tour, the lacklustre Lankans are just waiting to sail back home as quickly as possible.

But, amidst all that, there is one man who continues to pile up records and achieve personal feats, reminding everyone around he’s in a league of his own. Virat Kohli, on Saturday, became the first international captain to hit three successive hundreds in a three-match Test series.

The 29-year-old brought up his 20th Test hundred in the ongoing third Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. The right-hander reached the three-figure mark with a single off Dilruwan Perera as India reached 264/2 in the 62nd over.

Achieving the feat in 105 innings, Kohli became only the second fastest Indian batsman to score 20 Test hundreds. In the process, he surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar who took 107 innings. With 20 Test tons in 93 innings, Sunil Gavaskar still continues to lead that glorious list.

He is also the quickest to complete 52 international centuries across all formats, achieving the feat in his 350th innings to beat South African Hashim Amla’s record of 378 innings. Overall, Kohli is placed fifth only behind Don Bradman (55), Gavaskar (93), Matthew Hayden (95) and Steve Smith (99).

Scoring runs for runs, the Indian captain has slammed 11 hundreds so far in this year across all formats. Thus, he became the most prolific captain in terms of hundreds scored in a calendar year. Overall, he is only the third player after Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting to score 11 hundreds in a calendar year.

Thanks to his ton, Kohli has also reached the 5000-run mark in the longest version of the game. Reaching there in 105 innings, Kohli is now the fourth-quickest Indian to achieve the landmark.

Apart from today’s runs galore, Kohli boasts of two double hundreds that he slammed earlier this year. He also holds the record for scoring four double hundreds in consecutive series.
